Cladwood®
This product was manufactured by the Jefferson Smurfit Corporation. It is no longer
produced and is the subject matter of a class action suit. We do not have installation instructions
for the product; but we do have some of the lawsuit data and some pictures. While the material
was manufactured in lap siding and panel siding configurations, we see it most commonly on
manufactured homes as a panel product where the homes were manufactured during the time
frame of 1989 to 1998.
This product used the same manufacturer’s insignia found on Louisiana-Pacific, Inner
Seal siding. Inspectors sometimes have a hard time differentiating between the two products.
We have included a Photograph Addendum that shows that the difference lies in the “grooves”
between the T-1-11 type texture. The Cladwood product groove is “smooth” as in particle board
type finish. The wood fibers from the LP siding, Oriented Strandboard substrate is visible in the
grooves.
We would like to point out that the Masonite Corporation produced a panel siding that
looks very similar to both the LP and the Cladwood products. The Masonite product was also
installed predominately on manufactured homes as a panel product. The grooves between the
“boards” are smooth in the same manner as with the Cladwood product. The only difference
readily observable between Cladwood and Masonite panel material installed on manufactured
homes is the absence of the LP common logo.
